About GCYC

The Gary Comer Youth Center offers positive extracurricular alternatives in a welcoming and safe environment. Our mission is to provide the support for all of our students to graduate from high school, prepared to pursue college and careers. The Youth Center on Chicago's South Side draws its primary membership from the youth of the South Shore Drill Team, Paul Revere School and Alumni Association, and the local school community. In addition, the Youth Center offers numerous special events and activities open to the broader public throughout the year. Click on Membership for more information.

History

The story of the Youth Center cannot be told without telling the stories of two men who are most responsible for its creation—Gary Comer and Arthur Robertson.

This sculpture of a hand with an outstretched finger was inspired by the statue of Emperor Constantine the Great of Rome. For the Youth Center, it symbolizes number one in academic achievement.
